Local resident shares insights on being part of the Rouse Hill Hospital consumer reference group

We spoke to a local resident Alyce Jackson about her experience of being a member of the Rouse Hill Hospital consumer reference group since May 2024.
Alyce-jackson.jpgCould you tell us a bit about yourself and why you got involved?

I got involved as a volunteer consumer representative because I believe that community input is crucial in designing a hospital that truly serves its people. I am a dedicated mother, wife, sister, daughter and friend, balancing my roles as a full-time employee and a student. My diverse experiences in these roles enrich my perspective and drive my commitment to contributing meaningfully to the community. My background in the private hospital system for over 15 years and more recently as a project manager, has given me a unique perspective on the needs and challenges faced by patients and their families.

What do you do as a consumer on the Rouse Hill Hospital consumer reference group?

Being a consumer on the Rouse Hill Hospital consumer reference group means representing the voices and concerns of the community in the planning and design of the new hospital. As a consumer, I provide feedback on various aspects of the project, ensuring that the hospital meets the needs of its future patients and visitors. This role involves attending meetings, reviewing plans, brainstorming of ideas and collaborating with the other consumer representatives, future hospital staff and project team.

What have you found most interesting about being part of the consumer reference group?

The most interesting part of being in the consumer reference group is seeing how our feedback directly influences the hospital’s design and services. It’s fascinating to witness the collaborative process and know that our contributions are making a tangible difference in creating a better healthcare environment for our local community and for future generations.

What’s the best part about being a consumer?

The best part about being a consumer is the opportunity to advocate for the community and ensure that the hospital meets the real needs of its future patients. It’s fulfilling to know that my input along with the rest of the group helps shape a facility that will provide high-quality care for years to come.
